Uncle Milton Star Theatre Pro

Uncle Milton Star Theatre Pro
Many kids have a love for stars and space.

For that reason, there is quite a large market for toys and books for children on this theme.

However, there are relatively few products like the Star Theatre, which uses a projector to display images of the night sky on walls or ceilings.

In principle, this sounds like a great idea. So let's find out if it stands up to the test in practice.

Features Of The Uncle Milton Star Theatre

* Projects stars, moons and planets,
* Displays up to 10,000 stars on walls and ceiling,
* Sound track included

Is The Uncle Milton Star Theatre Worth Buying?

The Uncle Milton Star Theatre is a bit of a mixed bag. Let's start with the most obvious thing first. When you first take it out of its box, you might get the impression that it's a little flimsy. Considering the retail price of this product, you'd probably expect better. However, it seems to hold up alright in general.

There are a couple of obvious weaknesses though. Firstly, the disc tray is spring loaded rather than mechanical. It's made of thin plastic and seems like it could break fairly easily. Fortunately, with only two different star discs included, you probably won't need to use the disc tray too often, which means it'll probably last ok.

The more annoying problem with build quality is the frequency with which users report the rotation mechanism either skipping or failing completely. It should be simple to get this right, and Uncle Milton ought to do better.

Putting these issues to one side ñ they aren't necessarily deal breakers ñ there is lots to like about this product. Above all, it does forfil its intended role pretty well. The stars project nicely onto a wall or ceiling, creating a sparkling display that will satisfy most kids. However, it's not clear whether the included star display (with over 10,000 stars) shows any real constellations. This makes it difficult to recommend as an educational product.

Other positives of the Star Theatre pro are that it can run off either batteries or through the included AC adapter and that it has an auto time-off feature, making it great as a sleeping aid for kids.

If there were no build quality issues with this product, it'd be easier to recommend. However, at the retail price it really ought to be more durable. For this reason, you're better off going for something more affordable unless you have deep pockets or find it at a well-discounted rate.
